Disney Channel Star, Debby Ryan, who recently became the face of Mary Kay’s Don’t Look Away Campaign, opened up to Seventeen Magazine about how she faced the struggle of an abusive friendship. Ryan, who starred on Disney’s Jessie, became the network’s youngest ever director; she also kept busy with music, and released an indie EP with her band, The Never Ending.
The Don’t Look Away campaign aims to prevent and end dating abuse, and Ryan states why it is a very important cause to her. “I didn’t realize it was happening to me until I was being locked in rooms and having my phone thrown at me by a friend. I wasn’t even dating the guy – it was an emotionally abusive friendship,” Ryan told Seventeen. She says that she had great friends to help support her. loveisrespect is for those who don’t have someone to support them or to talk to.
